Introducing the Andaman & Nicobar Islands
Introduction :
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands, located in the east of the Indian mainland geographically, float in splendid isolation in the Bay of Bengal. These picturesque undulating islands, islets numbering around 836, are covered with dense rain-fed, damp and evergreen forests and endless varieties of exotic flora and fauna. Most of these islands (about 550) are in the Andaman Group, 28 of which are inhabited. The smaller Nicobars, comprise some 22 main islands (10 inhabited). The Andaman and Nicobars are separated by the Ten Degree Channel which is 150 Kms. wide.
When is the Best time to Visit?
October – April typically is the best time to visit this Islands.
Depending upon the activities that you want to be a part of the timing can be selected.
March – April is good for the Divers
October to December is good for Nature Lovers as still some random showers are experienced and the lush green vegetation is blooming.
December to February – Overall has the best weather for all kind of Water Activities
Where Should you go?
Best Highlight of the trip begins with a visit to Radhanagar Beach nestled at the Havelock Islands ( Swaraj Dweep ) where you can see the Bioluminescence, Later on enjoying the Beaches of Neil Island watching a Sunrise at Bharatpur Beach and trying Scuba Diving in the untouched Marine Life is as good an experience one can have. Major Spots at Port Blair include the Chidiya Tapu and the Cellular Jail. Baratang Island with the Limestone Caves offers an opening to explore the Northern Part of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
How Many Days do you need?
Ideally a week is enough to explore the major parts of the Island. If you have less time then should visit Port Blair and Havelock Islands only. If you have more time than apart from all the above suggested locations, you should consider spending time in the Northern side of the Island which is least explored.
